These papers are held by State Records NSW and include: petitions by convicts for mitigation of their sentences; requests for permission to marry; memorials attesting to the worthy character of potential settlers; applications for land grants or leases; reports on official visits; and information about court cases and lists of assigned servants. This index itself is primarily a personal one, concentrating on the early inhabitants of Australia - the convicts, settlers, indigenous Australians and colonial officials. However, the index does contain many entries relating to ships, subjects, towns and localities. There is a subject hierarchy for similar subject terms in the index, as follows: (1) Ships of that name; (2) Places/subjects; and then (3) Individuals. A 63-fiche version of this index, and copies of the actual Colonial Secretary Papers on 312 microfiche, are available at the ML Information Desk. Copies of the Colonial Secretary Papers are also available on 72 microfilm reels (reels 6001-6072) in the ML Reading Room (MAV/FM4/10243-10314).

The NSW War Memorials Register is a database of war memorials in New South Wales. It currently holds more than 3000 war memorial records, and more than 200,000 veteran records. The Register enables communities to record accurate information about war memorials, provides best practice information about war memorial conservation, and connects memorials and veterans to sustain NSW military and commemorative history.
Notices remain in the main search for 28 days, and then they are moved to the archive section, where they can be searched. The archive commences mid January 2006. If the notice is not contained in their archive it is because neither the Funeral Director or the family have placed a notice for this person on obits.com.au. You can search the site for free but there is a cost to submit a notice unless you have booked and paid for a listing through your funeral director. Entries may also include photos.

The Pacific Manuscripts Bureau (PMB | Pambu) copies archives, manuscripts and rare printed material relating to the Pacific Islands and the material provides the most extensive collection of non-government primary documentation on the Pacific Islands available to researchers on microfilm held by member libraries. The aim of the Bureau is to help with long-term preservation of the documentary heritage of the Pacific Islands and to make it accessible. The full version of this catalogue – including access to digitised materials – is available for Member libraries such as the State Library of New South Wales.
